Joe Gideon & The Shark
Joe Gideon & The Shark is a group made up of Gideon Joel Seifert and Viva Seifert, who is also known as “The Shark”. The pair are former members of Bikini Atoll and perform as a family band. Gideon plays six-string guitar and sings, while Viva plays a mix of percussion and other instruments.
Recordings
The group releases two albums on Bella Union. Its second album is recorded by Steve Albini.
Working method and early development
The band writes songs in a barn using an 8-track recorder. Their material is described through storytelling and a raw, percussive approach, with Gideon handling guitar and vocals and Viva adding stomping and horn-like sounds.
Performances and associations
Joe Gideon & The Shark plays with a range of other artists and groups in Europe, including Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Archie Bronson Outfit, The Duke Spirit, Scout Niblett and Michael Gira.
