JLS

JLS are a British boy band from London, formed in 2007 and active since then. The name is an initialism of Jack the Lad Swing. The group consists of Aston Merrygold, Marvin Humes, Jonathan “JB” Gill and Oritsé Williams.

Career

JLS finish as runners-up in the fifth series of The X Factor in 2008, coming second to Alexandra Burke. After the show they sign to Epic Records and continue to achieve chart success through 2009. Their first two singles, “Beat Again” and “Everybody in Love”, both reach number one on the UK Singles Chart.

Their self-titled debut album is released in 2009 and goes on to sell over one million copies in the UK. By this point the group has sold over 1.3 million albums worldwide. In 2010 they sign an American record deal with Jive Records and release “Everybody in Love” as their debut US single.

Their second studio album includes “The Club Is Alive”, which becomes their third UK number one single. Their third album includes “She Makes Me Wanna”, which is performed at the Capital Summertime Ball and later released as a digital download.

Awards

At the 2010 BRIT Awards, JLS win British Breakthrough and British Single for “Beat Again”.
