Jim Bob is the stage name of James Robert Morrison, a singer and songwriter from the United Kingdom. He is best known as the singer of Carter the Unstoppable Sex Machine, and he also works under his own name and in other projects including Jamie Wednesday, Jim's Super Stereoworld, Keith Top of the Pops & His Minor UK Indie Celebrity All-Star Backing Band, and Who's the Daddy Now?.
Early career
Born in London, Morrison adopts the name Jim Bob to avoid being confused with Jim Morrison of The Doors. During the 1980s he plays in several bands, including Jamie Wednesday, which is active between 1985 and 1987. When Jamie Wednesday splits up before a London Astoria show in 1987, Morrison and Les Carter, known as Fruitbat, perform with a backing tape and form Carter the Unstoppable Sex Machine.
Carter the Unstoppable Sex Machine
As the lead singer of Carter USM, Jim Bob achieves 14 top 40 singles and one number one album, and the band plays more than 800 gigs around the world. The group splits up in 1997. The verified membership list also includes Carter the Unstoppable Sex Machine, Keith Top of the Pops & His Minor UK Indie Celebrity All-Star Backing Band, Who's the Daddy Now?, and Jamie Wednesday.
Solo work and later projects
After Carter USM, Jim Bob releases two albums and three singles with the disco-pop-punk group Jim's Super Stereoworld, then three solo albums under his own name. He continues to perform live both with a band and as a solo artist, playing Carter songs alongside his solo material. In 2001 he appears onstage again with Fruitbat as part of Who's The Daddy Now?.
Writing
His autobiography, Goodnight Jim Bob - On The Road With Carter The Unstoppable Sex Machine, is published by Cherry Red Books in May 2004. He is later writing a second book while continuing to tour.
