Jack Johnson

Jack Johnson is a singer-songwriter from Hauʻula, Hawaii. Born in 1975, he performs as a solo artist and is associated with Brushfire Records. His music draws on blues rock, folk, folk rock, indie pop, pop, and rock, and also incorporates acoustic, alternative, and surf rock elements.

Recording career

Johnson releases a run of studio albums that includes Brushfire Fairytales (2001), On and On (2003), In Between Dreams (2005), Sing-A-Longs and Lullabies for the Film Curious George (2006), Sleep Through the Static (2008), To the Sea (2010), From Here to Now to You (2013), All the Light Above It Too (2017), and Meet the Moonlight (2022).

He reaches the top of the Billboard 200 with Sing-A-Longs and Lullabies for the Film Curious George, Sleep Through the Static, To the Sea, and From Here to Now to You. In Between Dreams peaks at number two and returns to that position again in 2013. All the Light Above It Too debuts at number five, becoming his seventh album to reach the chart’s top five.

Environmental work

Johnson is involved in environmental and sustainability initiatives, with a particular focus on ocean conservation. He and his wife Kim co-found the Johnson Ohana Charitable Foundation and the Kōkua Hawaii Foundation. In 2008, he directs the proceeds from his Sleep Through the Static tour to the Johnson Ohana Charitable Foundation, and proceeds from the tour supporting To the Sea go to All at Once, a collaboration of environmental charities that encourages fan participation.
