Irish Mythen

Irish Mythen is a singer, songwriter and recording artist from Wexford, Ireland, and now lives in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, in Canada. She moves to Canada in 2009 and has since made New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island part of her base in Atlantic Canada.

Career

Mythen records as a solo artist and releases four albums, including Open Here, which receives an East Coast Music Awards nomination in the Roots Traditional Recording of the Year category in 2012. Her other full-length releases are Republic Of One (1999), Sweet Necessity (2007) and Open Here (2011), and she also releases the EPs Appreciate (2004) and Fallen Me (2006).

Performing and collaborations

She performs across Europe, Australia, the Middle East and the UK, and is known for intense live shows. Mythen shares stages with Richie Havens, Sylvia Tyson, The Dubliners, Shane MacGowan, Gordie Sampson and Matt Andersen, among others. She also works with Gordie Sampson, Joel Plaskett, Ron Hynes, Matt Andersen, Bruce Guthro and Dave Gunning, as well as Tom Paxton, The Dubliners and The Pogues.

Style and presentation

Mythen is described as a songwriter and storyteller as well as a comedian, with performances that combine songs, narrative and humour. Her live shows emphasise vocal delivery and emotional expression, and she is presented as a performer with a broad stage presence rather than a singer alone.
