Iota

Iota is the name of several different acts, including a short-lived 1960s psychedelic rock band from Texas, an Australian musician who performs as iOTA, a French electro-dub producer, a psychedelic rock trio from Salt Lake City, a drone/post-rock trio from Gothenburg, and an alternative rock band from Bristol.

Iota is also the name of a short-lived 1960s psychedelic rock band from Texas. The group releases one 45 and records an LP’s worth of material in Memphis. That material is later issued posthumously by Shadoks Records and Rockadelic Records in the 2000s. A self-titled full-length album also appears on Suemi Records in 1971.

iOTA is an Australian musician who arrives on the music scene in 1999 with The Hip Bone Connection. He goes on to receive two ARIA Award nominations, release three more albums and an EP titled Little Carlos, and perform on stage as Hedwig Robinson in Hedwig & the Angry Inch. He later returns to Australian theatres in the same role and is set to play Frank-N-Furter in a revival of The Rocky Horror Show. A release titled Beauty Queen of the Sea appears in 2006.

Another Iota is a French electro-dub producer who performs live with the dancer Anartiste and the MC poet Says. Much of this music is released freely under a Creative Commons licence through the netlabel Zeste, with a planned CD album following.

Iota is also a psychedelic three-piece from Salt Lake City, Utah, formed in 2002 and signed to Small Stone Records in Detroit. The band releases its debut full-length, Tales, in 2008. A drone/post-rock trio from Gothenburg uses the same name and issues its first three-track EP under that name in 2012. Another IOTA is a five-piece alternative rock band from Bristol, UK.
