Howlin Rain
Howlin Rain is a psychedelic rock band from San Francisco, United States. It forms in 2004, led by Ethan Miller, who comes from Comets on Fire, together with Ian Gradek. John Moloney, known for his work with Sunburned hand of the man, joins to record the band’s first album.
Early releases and line-up changes
The band’s self-titled debut is released by Birdman Records and draws comparisons with the early Grateful Dead. It also gains attention from Rick Rubin. After Moloney leaves in 2006, the group is re-formed to record Magnificent Fiend, which is co-released by Birdman and American Records in 2008.
This version of the band includes Mike Jackson, Ethan Miller, Ian Gradek, Joel Robinow, and Garett Goddard, with additional contributions at different times from Eli Eckert and Brad Truax. Robinow is a guitarist from Drunk Horse, while Eckert is also a guitarist and singer from that band.
Later line-up
The band continues as an active group and includes Ethan Miller, Cyrus Comiskey, Isaiah Mitchell, and John Moloney. In this line-up, Miller plays guitars and sings, Robinow handles keys, horns, guitar, and vocals, Raj Ojha plays drums, and Comiskey plays bass guitar.
