Houston
Houston is a rock band from Minneapolis, United States, active from 1999 to 2004. The group forms around Jeff Halland on guitar and vocals, Lane Soderberg on bass and vocals, and Ian Prince on drums. Halland and Soderberg both spend part of their early years in Duluth, Minnesota before moving to Minneapolis in the early 1990s, and Prince joins the group after moving from Michigan’s Upper Peninsula to Minneapolis.
Career and releases
After forming in 1999, Houston tours extensively across the Midwest and beyond, and builds a catalogue of full-length releases and EPs. The band issues three full-length albums: Overhead, Head Like A Road Map, and Bottom Of The Curve. It also releases Live on Fish Island, described as a collection of out-takes and B-sides, along with three EPs, including a split 7-inch on SuperFi Records in the United Kingdom.
Style and reputation
Houston’s sound sits within hard rock and related guitar-based rock styles, with comparisons made to bands such as Hey Mercedes, House of Large Sizes, Shiner and Local H. The group is also linked to the wider American Midwest rock scene and is noted for its live performances, which lead to touring opportunities with several of those acts.
