Horse Mcdonald is a Scottish singer-songwriter from Newport on Tay, Fife. She first appears on record with the band Astrakhan in 1985, before recording her first two albums with a group called Horse and then continuing as a solo artist. Her work sits across rock, soul, indie and acoustic music.

Career

Mcdonald has recorded eight albums. Her early releases include You Could Be Forgiven, a four-track EP on Capitol, and The Same Sky, which reaches UK number 44. God's Home Movie follows in 1993 and reaches UK number 42. Later releases include Both Sides, recorded with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Hindsight ... It's a Wonderful Thing, Only All of Me, Coveted, Red Haired Girl, Coming Up For Air, and the DVD Live At The Queen's Hall.

Her singles include You Could Be Forgiven, The Speed of the Beat of My Heart, Sweet Thing, Careful, Shake This Mountain, God's Home Movie, Celebrate, Same Old, Same Old, and Something wicked this way comes. Several of these enter the UK singles chart, including Careful, Shake This Mountain, God's Home Movie, Celebrate, and the remix of Careful.

Recognition and collaborations

She tours with Tina Turner and has chart success in Europe. Her voice is widely noted in the British music scene, and NME describes it as one of Britain’s finest. Her songs are covered by Will Young and Jennifer Rush.
