Hawklords

Hawklords are a British space rock band formed in 2008 and active since then. The group comes from the United Kingdom and is linked to a later reworking of the Hawkwind line-up history, using the Hawklords name for a separate project from the late 1970s band of the same name.

Formation and background

The Hawklords name first appears in 1978 as the title used by an incarnation of Hawkwind, which records one album, 25 Years On. That earlier line-up includes Dave Brock, Robert Calvert, Harvey Bainbridge, Martin Griffin and Steve Swindells. After that period, the name returns in 2008/2009 when Bainbridge, Griffin and Swindells reform as Hawklords without Dave Brock.

Members

Members associated with the band include Martin Griffin, Danny Thompson, Nik Turner, Alan Davey, Steve Swindells, Ronald Tree, Harvey Bainbridge, Jerry Richards, Adrian Shaw, Dave Pearce, Mr Dibs and Dead Fred. Other former Hawkwind figures linked to the Hawklords line-up include Ron Tree and Terry Ollis.

Style and related history

The band is described as space rock and sits within the wider psychedelic and progressive rock tradition associated with Hawkwind-related projects. A live recording of the 1978 Hawklords line-up is later released, and the group history is closely tied to the personnel changes around Hawkwind during the late 1970s and early 1980s.
