Greg Downey is an Irish DJ and trance producer from Belfast, known for a sound that combines underground and uplifting trance with techno influences. He begins DJing in the mid-2000s and quickly builds a reputation in the UK club scene, with performances at venues and nights including Lush, Inside Out, Goodgreef, Gatecrasher, The Gallery, Slinky, Passion and The Coach.

Style and equipment

Downey’s approach centres on tougher electronic dance music and a mix of melodic trance, uplifting trance and tech-trance. He uses three CDJs, Serato Scratch Live, a Pioneer DJM 800 and an EFX 1000 in his DJ sets.

Releases and remixes

His productions and remixes include Vivid Intent, which receives support on Armin van Buuren’s A State of Trance and appears on Eddie Halliwell’s Cream Ibiza compilation, and Tears of Hope by Deems. He also remixes Bedrock’s Heaven Scent, which gains radio play, appears on a Cream Ibiza compilation and on a Ministry of Sound compilation, and is chosen as Eddie Halliwell’s “One For The Weekend” on Radio 1.

Collaborations and performances

Downey works with German artist Marc van Linden on an EP for Midway Records. He also creates a dark, driving EP containing the solo tracks The Instigator and Jaws. In addition to his club dates, he performs at Planet Love Festival in Northern Ireland and at Eddie Halliwell’s FIRE IT UP events.

Career development

Alongside his UK bookings, Downey also secures dates in Canada, China, Germany, Poland, Finland, Indonesia and Shanghai. He is signed to PFAgency and records a first live mix album for Discover.
