Goteki

Goteki are a UK electro group formed in 2000 by Ross Tregenza, who first records and performs as Sneaky after his previous band, Sneaky Bat Machine, ends. Their work combines electro with industrial and alternative pop, and their subject matter often uses science-fiction and surreal imagery, including songs about murdering strippers in the desert and robot geishas.

Line-up and development

The original line-up features Tregenza on vocals, Clive Lewis as Crash 303 on synths, and Bruce Attley as Doktor A on synthesizers and samples. In 2004 Tregenza stops using the Sneaky name and performs under his real name. After that, the group goes through several changes: Doktor A leaves and is replaced by Alastair Power as Ali Star on bass and Lilian Cheung as Yan-Yan on percussion. In mid-2005 Crash 303 leaves and Edy Green joins on lead guitar. Yan-Yan leaves in 2006 and is replaced by Rosie Harris. The group later continues as a reforming electro act and is listed as active from 2000 to the present, with Tregenza and Yan Yan named among the members.

Releases and activities

Between 2000 and 2006, Goteki release two albums, Goteki O/S and Revolution, as well as the EP Fight the Saucermen and the remix album Goteki O/S: Corrupted Files. They also work on The Summer of Santa Muerte, a project made up of five digital albums planned for release across several months, and on a new album with the working title Santa Muerte. A best-of collection covering their 2000 to 2006 material is made available through iTunes.

Touring and live appearances

Goteki tour Europe and North America between 2000 and 2006. Their live appearances include Belgium’s Eurorock Festival, Convergence X in Chicago, and UK festivals such as InFest, Whitby and Electrofest. The group also reforms after a charity gig in London.
