Gold Class
Gold Class is an Australian post-punk group formed in 2014. The line-up features guitarist Evan James Purdey, vocalist Adam Curley, bassist Jon Shub and drummer Mark Hewitt.
Formation and style
The group begins when Purdey, then a creative writing student, brings together material from demos he records on his own and asks classmates Curley and Hewitt to help develop it. Shub later joins the band; he is a luthier and also works with Purdey and Curley at a bar. Gold Class start playing live shows by the middle of 2014.
Their sound is a raw form of post-punk informed by Gang of Four, Fugazi and Radio Birdman.
Releases
Gold Class release their debut single, Michael, in September 2014. The single highlights the contrast between Purdey’s guitar work and Curley’s vocals.
The band records its first album early in 2015 with producer Simon Grounds at Head Gap studio in Melbourne. The album, It's You, is issued in September through Spunk Records and felte.
