Gnod

Gnod are a Manchester- and Salford-based group that forms in 2007 and remains active. Their sound sits across drone, experimental, industrial, krautrock, noise, psychedelic, ambient and psychedelic rock.

Overview

The group begins as an improv collective and develops into a prolific recording and live act. Its line-up includes Neil Francis, Chris Haslam, Alex Macarte, David Andrew McLean, Jon Perry, Marlene Ribeiro, Paddy Shine and Dan Watson. Gnod build a reputation through a large number of releases, with more than 20 issued over time.

Releases and labels

Among the releases associated with the group are Science & Industry on NotNotFun, Chaudelande on Tamed Records and Rocket Recordings, Ingnodwetrust, Gnod Dropout with White Hills II on Rocket Recordings, Infinity Machines on Rocket Recordings, just say no to the psycho right-wing capitalist fascist industrial death machine and chapel perilous. The group also issues live recordings through Roadburn Records after performing at Roadburn festival on two occasions.

Live activity and collaborations

Gnod develop a following through live performances in venues and club spaces across Europe. They create an original audio-visual work for Cork Film Festival in 2014, based on Alejandro Jodorowsky’s unrealised attempt to make Dune, and title it Gnodorowsky. They also collaborate with White Hills and Bong, and work with Radar Men from the Moon on the Temple of BBV project, released as a self-titled album through Rocket Recordings in 2017.

Other projects

The group founds the tape label Tesla Tapes and co-founds the experimental electronic club night Gesamtkunstwerk.
