Gazelle

Gazelle is the name of several unrelated acts. One is a two-piece band from Cape Town, South Africa, formed in 2006 by photographer and musician Xander Ferreira, who begins by experimenting with electronic bedroom music. This project crosses electronic music with disco, funk and pop, and it presents itself through a colourful visual style that draws on African contemporary music, art and fashion. It releases its debut album, Chic Afrique, in 2009.

Japanese visual kei band

Another Gazelle, styled in lowercase as ｇａｚｅｌｌｅ, forms on 16 January 2004. Its first live performance takes place at Meguro Rokumei-kan. The line-up consists of 浩 / hiroshi on vocals, ミヤ / MIYA on guitar, ムラ / MURA on bass, and 桐 / Kiri on drums. MURA later has links to アクマヘッド and L'eprica, while Kiri also has connections to Twisted Clock, WORLDisMINE and cocklobin. The band is active in the Nagoya scene and plays with groups including The Candy Spooky Theatre, -OZ-, CaMin and Domain. Its last live performance is in March 2006, and its activity is said to stop from April 2006.

Other acts using the name

Gazelle also refers to an instrumental band from Amarillo, Texas, which self-releases a CD titled 7 Killer Songs before breaking up in 2004. Another version of the name is a two-piece from Champaign, Illinois, with live membership expanding to five, made up of Jeff Dimpsey of Hum and National Skyline, and Adam Fein of Absinthe Blind. There is also a Japanese jazz outfit featuring Akira Sakata and Manubu Sakata, and a one-piece post-gaze, slow-core project from Seattle, Washington.
