Fulci

Fulci is an American drone metal band with a death metal orientation. It forms in 2013 and is based in Caserta, Campania, Italy in its early history, although the act is identified as originating in the United States and currently lists Eric Crowe as a member.

Style and concept

The band is conceived as a death metal tribute to Lucio Fulci, the Italian horror filmmaker. Its releases are built around his films, with each album paying tribute to one of them. The group combines death metal with horror-film themes and uses a drum machine by choice, along with audio samples from films and synthesiser parts. Its live set-up also includes visual elements, film audio samples, synth and, when possible, lighting to create a theatrical performance.

Releases and themes

Fulci publishes its first demo tape in 2014. Its first album, Opening The Hell Gates, appears in 2015 and is based on City of the Living Dead. In 2019 the band tours the western United States to support Tropical Sun, an album dedicated to Zombi 2.

Live activity and influences

The band performs at Las Vegas Death Fest in 2019. Its stated musical influences include New York and Tampa Bay death metal, gore metal, slam, and film composers such as Fabio Frizzi, Francesco Micalizzi, Stelvio Cipriani and John Carpenter. The listed influences include Immolation, Incantation, Cannibal Corpse, Mortician, Necrophagia, Internal Bleeding and Devourment.
