Forefathers

Forefathers is a New Jersey-based group active since 2011. The project is associated with Portland Hay. It should not be confused with a punk band of the same name from Florida.

Background

The band forms out of earlier projects on different sides of the musical spectrum and develops as an outlet for intense personal expression. It is described as driven by a strong emotional and confrontational outlook, with its material shaped by frustration and anger.

Sound and recordings

Forefathers draws on progressive hardcore, metalcore, punk and folk-punk, with references to progressive rock and heavier hardcore and metal influences. Its sound is compared to acts such as Underoath, Oceana, Black Breath and Every Time I Die. After a period of demoing and refining its style, the band works with Rory Willis of Greyskull Recordings to record its self-titled debut release.
