Fischer-Z

Fischer-Z is a British rock group led by singer-songwriter John Watts. The original line-up consists of Watts on vocals and guitar, David Graham on bass, Steve Skolnik on keyboards and Steve Liddle on drums. The group forms in 1976 and is active from 1979 onwards.

Career and line-up changes

The band releases three successful albums between 1979 and 1981. Watts records and performs under his own name during 1981 to 1983, then forms The Cry in 1984. He later revives Fischer-Z in 1987 with a new line-up in which he is the only original member. Albums continue to appear with a similar line-up until 1995, after which Watts again records under variations of his own name, including J M Watts, Watts and John Watts.

Later activity

Fischer-Z returns again in 2002 for the album Ether. In 2004, the original band reunites for one short show, which appears on the Garden Party DVD and the Fischer-Z Highlights 1979-2004 25th anniversary compilation. Watts then continues with solo recording and performance, including Real Life Is Good Enough in 2005, It Has To Be in 2006 and Morethanmusic & Films in 2009. In 2010 he performs in the Netherlands with a band he presents as the new Fischer-Z, featuring Sam Walker on drums and Matthew Gest on keyboard.
