Finley Quaye
Finley Quaye is a British musician from Edinburgh, born in 1974, whose work is associated with reggae, chillout, indie, singer-songwriter and pop, as well as classic pop and rock. He is the youngest son of jazz musician Cab Kaye, the half-brother of guitarist Caleb Quaye, and the brother of jazz musician Terri Quaye.
Career
Quaye makes his recording debut in 1995 on A Guy Called Gerald’s Finley’s Rainbow. He then signs to Epic Records and establishes his solo profile with Maverick A Strike, an album released in 1997 that reaches gold sales within a few weeks and helps lead to wider recognition.
Later in 1997, he has two UK Top 20 singles: “Sunday Shining”, a loose cover of a Bob Marley song, and “Even After All”. In 2004, he appears on “Dice” with William Orbit and Beth Orton; the track becomes a minor hit and is helped by its inclusion on The O.C. soundtrack.
Awards
Quaye wins the 1997 MOBO Award for best reggae act and the 1998 BRIT Award for Best British Male Solo Artist.
