Finest Kind

Finest Kind is a Canadian folk vocal project made up of Ian Robb, Ann Downey and Shelly Posen. The group specialises in three-part harmony rooted in British and North American folk traditions. It often accompanies itself on banjo and guitar, but it also performs unaccompanied a cappella sets.

Style and approach

The trio’s singing is noted for its dense harmony and for the individual character of Ian Robb’s northern British accent within the group sound. Their approach is often compared with other harmony-led folk acts such as Bok, Trickett and Muir, Coope Boyes and Simpson, and The Voice Squad.
