Fear of Theydon

Fear of Theydon is the recording name of Essex-born producer Julian Peck. He begins his music career in 2006 at the UK indie label Sunday Best, where he works as a tea boy. The label is owned by Rob da Bank, and da Bank gives early Radio 1 plays to Peck’s bootleg edits of Kate Bush and New Order, helping establish his move into remix-based production.

Early releases and Sunday Best work

In 2007, Fear of Theydon releases This is Fear of Theydon EP on Sunday Best Recordings. The EP is well received, and the Fear of Theydon remix of Grand National’s Rub Your Potion appears on the compilations Global Underground Mixed:2 and Andy Cato presents: Cafe Mambo. This release marks the start of a long run of official work for Sunday Best, first under the F.o.T name and later under the Sunday Best Remix pseudonym, which the label assigns to him in 2008.

Remixes and collaborations

His Sunday Best remixes feature on singles by dan le sac Vs Scroobius Pip, David E. Sugar, Dub Pistols, David Lynch, Beardyman, Lemonade, Lucky Elephant and Ebony Bones!. Beyond the label, he also assists on official remixes by Rob da Bank for Moby, MGMT, Passion Pit, Amadou & Mariam and Editors.

Fear of Theydon also receives commissioned remixes for Montevideo on Relish, Lusty Zanzibar on Nang, Incarnations on Lovemonk, Tickler Tea & Magic Fuzz on Jack-to-Phono, James Delay on Russell Club and The CB’s on Jam City, among others. Around five years after starting at Sunday Best, Peck has co-productions in progress with Sean Brosnan, Pete Gooding and the London band Citizens, alongside songwriting collaborations with Merz, Mantler, Rachael Dadd, La Rudd of Grand National, and Simon Lord of Black Ghosts and Simian.
