Esther Rose
Esther Rose is an American musician based in New Orleans whose work sits within americana, folk, and alternative country. She begins her recording career in 2013 through a collaboration with her then-husband, Luke Winslow-King. After they separate in 2015, she starts assembling a solo record.
Early releases and band lineup
Her first album, This Time Last Night, is recorded in April 2017 with a band that includes Lyle Werner on fiddle, Matt Bell on lap steel, Callie Millington on bass, and Cameron Snyder on drums. It appears on the Mashed Potato label in June. During the same year, she also contributes backing vocals to two tracks on Jack White’s Boarding House Reach.
Father/Daughter Records period
Rose later signs with Father/Daughter Records, which releases her second album, You Made It This Far, in 2019. The record uses the same basic band setup, although Dan Cutler replaces Callie Millington on bass. In 2020 she follows it with the covers EP My Favorite Mistakes, on which she interprets songs associated with Hank Williams, Roy Orbison, Sheryl Crow, and Nick Lowe.
Later work
Her third full-length, How Many Times, is co-produced by Rose and Ross Farbe of the synth pop group Video Age. It is recorded with the lineup from her previous album and additional musicians including electric guitarist Max Bien-Kahn. The album appears on Father/Daughter in the United States and Full Time Hobby in the United Kingdom in 2021. Her releases also include Orange Moon and Over You.
