Erra

Erra, stylised as ERRA, is a progressive metalcore band from Birmingham, Alabama, United States. It forms in 2009 and remains active. Its music sits across progressive metalcore, metalcore, melodic metalcore, djent, progressive metal and post-hardcore.

Formation and name

The band starts with members of By Blood and Iron and with Alan Rigdon, who previously plays guitar in Broadcast the Nightmare. The name Erra comes from the Akkadian god of mayhem. The song “Seven” from Impulse relates to the epic of Erra.

Line-up

Current members include J.T. Cavey on heavy vocals, Jesse Cash on guitar and clean vocals, Alex Ballew on drums, Conor Hesse on bass, and Clint Tustin on guitar. Earlier members include Adam Hicks, Alan Rigdon and Garrison Lee, and Sean Price also plays bass in the band.

Releases

Erra releases three EPs and five full-length albums. The EPs are the self-titled debut EP, Andromeda and Moments of Clarity. The albums are Impulse (2011), Augment (2013), Drift (2016), Neon (2016), ERRA (2021) and CURE (2024). A further album, silence outlives the earth, is listed for 2026.

Development

The band records its first EP in late 2009. It follows with Andromeda in 2010, recorded during the summer and released in December that year. After that, it records Impulse at 456 Recordings in Nashville with Brian Hood. Hicks leaves in 2012 to finish college, and Price joins on bass as the band begins work on Augment. In 2014 Rigdon and Garrison Lee leave, and Ian Eubanks fills the vocal role for a period. J.T. Cavey joins in 2016, replacing Eubanks, and the band releases Drift, which reaches number one on the Billboard Heatseekers Albums chart.

Touring and label activity

Erra releases Moments of Clarity through Sumerian Records. It also tours on the Sumerian 10-year tour with Born of Osiris, Veil of Maya, After the Burial and Bad Omens. The band’s Bandcamp is associated with UNFD.
