East of Eden

East of Eden are a British progressive rock group from Bristol, active from 1967 to the present. They are associated with jazz rock, progressive rock and psychedelic rock, and are described as a 1960s and 1970s UK progressive rock band.

History and style

The band begins as a heavy psychedelic act with a marked eastern influence. It then moves through jazz rock territory before settling into a more mainstream country rock style. Despite these shifts, it remains identified with the British progressive rock scene.

Members and recordings

Named members include Dave Arbus, Geoff Britton, Ron Caines, Dave Dufont, Geoff Nicholson, Garth Watt-Roy, Steve York and Les Davidson. Violinist Dave Arbus also plays on The Who’s “Baba O’Riley”.

Notable release

“Jig A Jig” is the group’s only UK hit single.
