Disclosure
Disclosure is a British electronic duo made up of brothers Guy Lawrence and Howard Lawrence, from Surrey, United Kingdom. The project sits across electronic music, house, UK garage, future garage and dubstep, and is known for drawing on 2-step garage rhythms, dubstep basslines, soul, jazz and 90s hip hop.
Early releases
The duo begins releasing music in 2010 with a debut single on Moshi Moshi Records. The following year they issue a four-track EP on Transparent Records. In 2012 they release the Tenderly/Flow and The Face EPs on Greco-Roman.
Breakthrough period
Disclosure’s first single for Universal Records’ PMR label is Latch. In 2013 they release White Noise, featuring vocals by Aluna Francis of AlunaGeorge. Their debut album, Settle, follows, with You & Me issued before the album and premiered by Annie Mac on BBC Radio 1.
Style and related activity
The project is associated with a polished but lo-fi approach that combines dance music structures with elements from older British club styles. The name Disclosure is also used by Ben Arp as a side project of C/A/T, although that is a separate artist identity from the Lawrence brothers’ act.
Live performance and touring
Disclosure builds a reputation through frequent live work and touring. One account of the duo describes them adapting quickly when a show is cancelled in Newport News, Virginia, then arranging replacement appearances through MySpace and continuing to play for free in Richmond, Virginia. That account also notes extensive touring and many live performances across the eastern United States.
