Desert Mountain Tribe
Desert Mountain Tribe is a London-based psychedelic rock group active since 2012. The band is formed by Jonty Balls on guitar and vocals, and brothers Philipp Jahn on bass and Felix Jahn on drums. The Jahn brothers play as a rhythm section that has developed through years of playing together in different ensembles from a young age.
Style and line-up
The band’s music sits in psychedelic rock, with verified genre labels also placing it in experimental rock, indie rock and rock. Its three-piece format centres on Balls’ guitar and vocals with the Jahn brothers providing bass and drums.
Early activity and releases
Desert Mountain Tribe emerges in late 2012 from London and records its debut EP early in 2013 at Shaken Oak Farm in Oxfordshire. Brett Orrison of The Black Angels masters the EP. The band also has a separate release due through Greek label Sonic Playground, and early track ‘Coming Down’ appears on a Reverb Conspiracy compilation associated with Fuzz Club Records and Austin Psych Fest.
Live work and associations
In its first year, the group shares stages with Damo Suzuki, The Cult of Dom Keller, The Lucid Dream, Wall of Death and The Telescopes. It continues to perform live across the UK while preparing its debut album.
