Deco is the name used by a Los Angeles-based DJ and producer of bass-led electronic music with elements of soul. He works across dub, techno, downtempo and other styles, and his sound draws on the underground history of drum & bass and dubstep.

Background

Deco is identified as Matt, a DJ from Los Angeles. He builds tracks that combine older electronic influences with contemporary production, often moving between deep, reflective material and more driving, technical arrangements.

Music and releases

His catalogue includes more than a dozen singles, remixes and EPs. He has spent several years making music outside the mainstream and is associated with the bass-music scene. Before focusing on studio work, he DJs in clubs and on radio during the 2000s.

Radio and club work

Deco holds posts as music director for WRAS Atlanta 88.5FM, a college radio station, and also serves as a resident DJ for Insomniac, the dance-music promoter behind events such as Electric Daisy Carnival.

Deceast

In 2009, he establishes Deceast, a label created as an outlet for his own music and that of a small circle of friends. The label follows a limited-release approach and later expands into radio and live events, including a bi-weekly show on SubFM and club nights in and around Los Angeles.
