Daniel Avery

Daniel Avery is an electronic music producer and DJ from London, born in 1986. His work spans acid house, ambient, breakbeat, breaks, club, dance, abstract techno, house, IDM and shoegaze. He also records as Stopmakingme and is associated with the acts Noun and Demise Of Love.

Career

Avery begins DJing as a teenager in Bournemouth, where he is based before moving into London club work. A trip to Ibiza shapes his interest in house and techno, after he sees crowds respond to unfamiliar music. He first gains attention under the name Stopmakingme, releasing indie dance tracks and remixes from 2009. His output in this period includes collaborations with Justin Robertson and remixes for Little Boots, Metronomy, Hercules & Love Affair and In Flagranti.

He connects with Filthy Dukes through a local bar and goes on to play at their Kill 'Em All club night in London, which leads to support slots at Fabric. In 2012 he starts releasing music under his own name, and his debut album, Drone Logic, follows in 2013. The album receives wide acclaim. Five years later, he releases Song for Alpha, a more immersive and cerebral second album. He also releases a DJ-Kicks volume.

Style

Avery develops a raw and robust production style that mixes techno and house with odd, alien elements. His music often sits between club-focused electronic forms and more abstract or atmospheric material.
