Crookers
Crookers is an Italian DJ and producer project from Milano, formed in 2003 by Francesco Barbaglia and Andrea Fratangelo, who perform as Phra and Bot. The duo works in electro hop, electro house and fidget house, drawing on house, hip hop and a wider range of electronic influences.
Background
Before working together, the two members developed different musical paths. Bot begins with piano and guitar, then moves on to synths, turntables and sequencers. Phra starts DJing at 11 after encountering the Italian hip hop scene, later becoming an MC and building a production career from that background. When they meet, both are looking beyond earlier genre success and towards dance music.
The project forms around shared musical tastes, which the duo says make collaboration easier in Milan. Their productions combine elements from different periods and genres, with house and hip hop at the centre of their approach.
Releases and remixes
Crookers releases two EPs, Knobbers and Mad Kidz, both made up entirely of original tracks. The project is also known for remix work, with reworkings for Armand Van Helden, Bonde do Role, Brodinski, The Chemical Brothers, Magik Johnson, Moby, Chromeo, Busy P, Don Rimini and Bumblebeez.
Other activity
Alongside studio work, Crookers holds a residency with MTV Italy. The project continues to be active from its base in Milano.
