Crazy Arm
Crazy Arm are a punk band from Plymouth, United Kingdom, active since 2005. They come out of Devon and build a sound that draws on hardcore punk, 1960s protest music, American, English and Irish folk, anarcho-punk and classic rock and roll. Their music also carries a clear political edge.
Releases
The band releases three albums on Xtra Mile Recordings: Born To Ruin, Union City Breath and The Southern Wild. These records help establish their reputation with both fans and critics. The Southern Wild also reflects a stripped-down acoustic side to the band, using fiddle, banjo, dreadnought guitars and close male and female vocal harmonies, alongside influences from folk-roots, bluegrass, country and Americana.
Live work and recognition
Crazy Arm tour widely in the UK and Europe and appear at festivals including Reading and Leeds, 2000 Trees, Boardmasters, Leopalooza and Mighty Sounds. They play with acts such as Against Me!, Frank Turner, Chuck Ragan, Bangers, Sonic Boom Six, Lagwagon and Apologies I Have None. Radio support comes from outlets including Radio 1’s Punk Show, Xfm, BBC Introducing, 6Music and various indie stations. The band also wins Best Rock Act at the South West Music Awards in 2011.
Songwriting and influences
Their work reflects a broad set of reference points, including Woven Hand, Murder By Death, Johnny Cash, Phil Ochs, Austin Lucas, Woody Guthrie and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. The band’s approach combines those influences with a grassroots political outlook and a hard-touring work ethic.
