Company B

Company B is a Miami-based Latin freestyle group that forms in 1986 and remains active. It is a trio and is associated with the freestyle and dance-pop scenes of the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Formation and line-up

The group forms in Miami, United States, under Cuban-American producer Ish “Angel” Ledesma, who has also worked with Foxy and Oxo. Its early line-up includes Lori L., Lezlee Livrano and Susan Johnson. After the self-titled debut album, Donna Huntley and Julie Marie replace Livrano and Johnson. The verified membership names Donna Huntley as a current member.

Recording career

Company B releases its first album in 1987 on Atlantic Records. The project emerges during a period when producer-led girl groups are prominent, alongside acts such as Exposé. Its best-known recording is “Fascinated”, which gains substantial radio and club play, reaches number one on the US Hot Dance Club Play chart and crosses over to pop radio, peaking at number 21 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song becomes the group’s signature track and is later regarded as a dance music classic.

Other songs from the debut album include “Full Circle”, “Perfect Lover” and “Signed in Your Book of Love”, which also receive club play. The group appears on television programmes such as Showtime at the Apollo.

Later releases

In 1989, Company B releases the follow-up album Gotta Dance and changes its image, dropping the white wigs that had become part of its presentation. Singles from the album include “You Stole My Heart”, “Gotta Dance” and a version of The Andrews Sisters song “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy”. A music video is made for “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy”, but the group does not match the success of its debut release. A third album reuses some earlier material and includes “Jam on Me”, which adds new lyrics to an earlier song.
