coldrain

coldrain is a Japanese rock band from Nagoya, Japan, active since 2007. The group is known for a sound built around post-hardcore, metalcore and J-rock, with the style also drawing on alternative metal, alternative rock, nu metal and pop punk on some tracks. Its listed members are Masato on lead vocals and screams, Y.K.C. on lead guitar, programming, piano and keys, Sugi on rhythm guitar, baritone guitar, backing vocals and screams, RxYxO on bass guitar, backing vocals and screams, and Katsuma on drums and percussion. The frontman, Masato David Hayakawa, is half American.

Style and influences

The band’s music is usually described as a blend of post-hardcore and metalcore. Its influences include Linkin Park, Incubus and Papa Roach.

Anime and game tie-ins

Several coldrain songs are used in anime and game projects. “8AM” appears as the ending theme for Hajime no Ippo: The Fighting! New Challenger. “We’re not alone” is used as the opening theme for RAINBOW: Nisha Rokubou no Shichinin. “FEED THE FIRE” serves as the opening theme for Ōsama Game The Animation. “Revolution” is the main theme for Mobile Suit Gundam: Extreme Vs 2. “MAYDAY”, featuring Ryo Kinoshita of Crystal Lake, is used in Fire Force and is noted for increasing the band’s recognition. “Bloody Power Fame” is used as the opening theme for the Netflix anime BASTARD!! Ankoku no Hakaishin.
