Charlee Drew
Charlee Drew is a Leicester-born singer-songwriter from the United Kingdom who works across pop, ska, pop rock and R&B. He begins as a solo artist in 2011, building an online following through covers and touring before releasing records. By that point he has accumulated more than 1.5 million YouTube views without a formal release, and his first single attracts early support from artists including Ed Sheeran, Sway and Lemar.
Early work and releases
Drew’s debut EP, You Did Me A Favour, appears as his first major release. Its title track is written with producers Matt Marston and Rob Wells, who have credits including work with Justin Bieber, Paloma Faith and Clement Marfo’s Olympic-themed single Champion. The EP reaches the top 20 of the iTunes Singer/Songwriter chart on pre-orders alone. He also begins work on a solo album in 2012.
Collaborations and live activity
He starts out producing, writing and featuring on Skepta’s UK top 20 album Doin’ It Again. He also serves as musical director for Skepta’s two sold-out Academy tours and performs with him at Glastonbury, on Radio 1’s Live Lounge and on MTV. Alongside this, he develops his own fanbase through extensive touring.
Style and support
Drew’s music combines live instruments and soulful harmonies with a mainstream pop approach. He receives backing from BBC Introducing and SBTV, as well as coverage in national magazines including Bliss.
