Cate Le Bon is a Welsh singer-songwriter from Penboyr, Wales, born in 1983. She sings in both English and Welsh and is based in Los Angeles.

Solo work

She releases seven solo albums, three EPs and a number of singles. Her work sits within singer-songwriter, folk and folktronica territory, and she is grouped with female vocalists and the gilbert tag.

Collaborations

Le Bon also appears in collaborations with Manic Street Preachers, Neon Neon and Matt Davies. She is also associated with Drinks, Alcatraz, Banana and The Secret Show.

Writing and style

Critics single out her voice as beautiful and haunting. Le Bon describes music-making as an important form of expression, saying that she does not always think it needs moralising. She also says that early experiences with the deaths of pet animals shape her long-standing preoccupation with death, and that her lyric writing involves searching for the right words until the rest of the song falls into place.
