Cal

Cal is an Indonesian solo project associated with Gilang Hade, who works under the name as an alter ego from Bandung, Indonesia. The project develops from material Gilang had written but not used elsewhere, and the name comes from the first three letters of the word “calcium”.

The project presents a fuzzy sound with medium tempo and simple composition, with an alternative and nu-gaze character. Although described as a solo project, Cal also appears as a full band line-up with Gilang on vocals and guitar, Jordy on drums, Dwiki on bass, and Thian on guitar.

Releases

Cal begins releasing music in 2022 with the single “Spending”, issued as the first single from the EP Anthracite Grey. In 2023, the project releases the singles “Conformance” and “Logical” as a bridge to its first album, Notion, which is issued on Disaster Records.

The name Cal is also used in a separate context by Mark Callaghan, former lead singer of Ganggajang and The Riptides, for his 1988 solo album Sailors and Mermaids.
