Buke and Gase

Buke and Gase are an indie rock duo from Brooklyn, United States, formed in 2008 and active since then. The group consists of Arone Dyer and Aron Sanchez, who perform under the names “Buke” and “Gase”. Dyer handles lead vocals, buke and foot percussion, while Sanchez plays gase, backing vocals and bass drum.

Origin and name

The group’s name refers to the custom instruments associated with the two members: Dyer plays a six-string baritone ukulele, and Sanchez plays a guitar-bass hybrid. The act originally uses the name Buke and Gass before adopting the current spelling.

Early development and recordings

Dyer and Sanchez start playing together in late 2007 after the end of their previous band, Hominid. Their first EP, +/−, appears in 2008. They sign to Brassland Records after Aaron and Bryce Dessner of The National see them perform in a basement venue.

Albums and media appearances

In 2009, the duo feature on the NPR science programme Radiolab. They then record their debut album, Riposte, and tour widely across the United States and Europe. Their second EP, Function Falls, follows in 2012, and their second full-length album, General Dome, is released in 2013.
