Braids

Braids are a Canadian art pop group formed in 2006 and based in Calgary and Montréal. The group’s music spans art rock, electronic music, indie pop, and neo-psychedelia, and it is also identified with experimental tendencies.

Formation and line-up

The band forms in 2006 with Raphaelle Standell-Preston, Katie Lee, Austin Tufts and Taylor Smith. The current line-up includes Vince Man, EEJUNGMI, Taylor Smith, Raphaelle Standell-Preston and Austin Tufts.

Releases

Their first album, Native Speaker, appears in 2011 and receives strong critical praise, with particular attention given to its inventive melodies and Standell-Preston’s vocal style. The keyboardist Katie Lee leaves during the recording of the 2013 album Flourish // Perish. The band’s third album, Deep In The Iris, follows in 2015.
