Billy The Kid

Billy The Kid is a name used by several different musical acts. It refers to a Canadian singer-songwriter associated with the punk band Billy and the Lost Boys, a metalcore band from San José, Costa Rica, a Dutch rock band from The Hague, and a Chicago-based DJ.

Canadian singer-songwriter

The Canadian Billy the Kid is a musician best known for work with the punk rock band Billy and the Lost Boys. She has been active for over a decade and releases solo material under the Billy the Kid name. Her first solo release, The Lost Cause, appears in autumn 2008 on her own label of the same name. The recording is produced, mixed and recorded by Raine Maida, best known as the frontman of Our Lady Peace, and includes piano by Garth Hudson. In 2014 she releases her fourth solo album, Horseshoes & Hand Grenades, on Xtra Mile Recordings. Frank Turner produces the album and also appears on the lead single, “This Sure as Hell Ain’t My Life”.

She uses a self-managed approach to promotion, production and management, and tours as a support act for Maida’s solo release.

Metalcore band from Costa Rica

The Costa Rican Billy the Kid is a metalcore band from San José, formed in 2007. Its members come from Ablaze the Embers, A Sangre Fría, xTiempos de Gloriax and Código Penal. The band identifies as straight edge and says it respects all beliefs and ideologies.

Rock band from the Netherlands

Another Billy the Kid is a Dutch band from The Hague. It is discovered by Golden Earring, plays American-style rock, and scores a minor hit in the Netherlands in 1999 with “Loser”, a song written by Anouk.

DJ and radio personality

A fourth Billy the Kid is a DJ known as Rock City and later as B96.3 Mixmaster Billy the Kid. He returns to the United States after being chosen as Maxim Magazine’s Spring Break DJ in Acapulco, Mexico, where he entertains more than 20,000 spring breakers over a six-week stay. While in Mexico, he opens for DJ AM, DJ Green Lantern, DJ LS1, T-Pain and Lil’ Flip. Based in Chicago, he contributes to a major mix show heard from New York to Los Angeles and performs at large venues and events, including appearances at the Winter Music Conference in Miami alongside Seb Fontaine, Donald Glaude, Robbie Rivera and BT.
