Beth Hart

Beth Hart is a US singer-songwriter from Los Angeles whose work spans blues, blues rock, electric blues, rock and soul. Her music also draws on rock, blues, gospel, jazz and classical influences. She records on Jezebel Blues and has worked under the names Beth Hart Band and Beth Hart & The Ocean of Souls.

Career

Hart first appears on Ed McMahon’s Star Search in 1993. That same year she records Beth Hart and the Ocean of Souls, which includes “Am I the One” and a pop-rock version of the Beatles’ “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds”. “Am I the One” is later re-worked for Immortal.

She releases Immortal with Beth Hart Band in 1996. Her 1999 album Screamin’ for My Supper comes out on Atlantic and includes “LA Song (Out of This Town)”, which becomes a top-five Adult Contemporary chart hit and brings her wider attention after it is used in the 10th and final season of Beverly Hills, 90210.

At the same time, Hart performs the lead role in Love, Janis, an Off-Broadway musical based on Janis Joplin’s letters to her mother. She later releases Leave the Light On in 2003 and Live at Paradiso in 2005; the DVD version includes a bonus documentary about a day in her life.

Collaborations and later releases

Hart records with Born on “It Hurts”, with Les Paul and Neal Schon on “I Wanna Know You”, and with Slash on “Mother Maria”, which appears on the iTunes version of Slash’s solo album Slash. She also issues video singles that are not available on CD, including “Shine”, “Boogeyman” and “Setting Me Free”.

37 Days is released in Europe in 2007. In 2010 she releases “Learning to Live”, which is also used as the theme song for Losing It with Jillian on NBC. In 2011 she works with Joe Bonamassa, singing on “No Love On The Street” from Dust Bowl and then recording the blues covers album Don’t Explain with him.

Band and personnel

While playing clubs in Los Angeles, Hart brings in bassist Tal Herzberg and guitarist Jimmy Khoury. Her band includes lead guitarist Jon Nichols, bassist Tom Lilly and drummer Todd Wolf. Her manager is David Wolff. Hart is married and lives in Los Angeles.
