Their songs are by turn eccentrically happy and darkly funny and are largely about Bert's unadulterated love for animals. After winning the Totnes Buskers Competition in 2007, the band were invited, by Michael Eavis, to play The Queens Head stage at Glastonbury Festival. This year The Animal Folk were offered to play the opening night of Glastonbury's Emerging Talent Competition and have been invited to return to the festival, again by Michael Eavis. Since 2007 the band have been enjoyed on the festival circuit as well as hosting some nights in venues throughout the country. Other recent accomplishments include: being invited to The Green Man festival in Wales in 2009 and 2010, Beyond The Bubble festival in the south of France in 2008 and being asked to provide the music to a shadow puppet show in the Battersea Arts Centre, London also in 2008.
