Benji Boko

Benji Boko is a British electronic artist and turntablist known for a live remix approach that he describes as completely improvised and performed off the cuff. His work sits across electronic music, trip-hop and breaks, and he is associated with turntable-based performance and remix culture.

Live performance

In 2010, Benji Boko performs to 17,000 people at the London O2 arena alongside Deadmau5, Justice and Calvin Harris as part of a New Year event. He develops a live show called Can I Mix It?, built around spontaneous remixing. His stage set-up uses a wide range of equipment and is used to rework party tracks, cartoon themes and film soundtracks into new live versions. He tours Europe and appears at major festivals including RockNess, Bestival and Glastonbury.

Collaborations and remixes

He supports acts including DJ Yoda, Annie Mac, Zane Lowe, Beardyman and Fat Freddy’s Drop. He also works with singers and MCs such as Maxi Jazz of Faithless and Ricky Rankin of Roots Manuva on his recordings. As a remixer, he works on material by Little Dragon, DJ Shadow and Chromeo, among others.

Recordings

Benji Boko releases his debut album, Beats, Treats & All Things Unique, on Tru Thoughts. The album includes support from BBC radio and is described as a varied record that moves between relaxed listening and festival use. He also works on a second album and a new live animation show.

Presence and reputation

He is described by other DJs and presenters as an inventive live performer with strong stage presence and a wide musical range. He maintains an online presence through Facebook, Twitter and SoundCloud.
