Belakiss
Belakiss are a London, UK band. The line-up consists of Ruari Meehan on vocals and guitar, Ben Sheldrick on vocals and guitar, Tatia Starkey on bass and vocals, and Alfie Milner on drums.
Career
The group build a reputation in London’s music venues and bars before attracting wider attention in Japan. Their single “Only You” reaches number 1 in the international air-play chart and enters the official Japanese charts at number 35. The follow-up single “Run Red” enters the official chart at number 20. They are also the first band to be accepted for Fuji Rock 2011 without already having released an album.
Sound and influences
Their music is described as drawing on psychedelic and groove-oriented sounds, with comparisons made to Kula Shaker and Supergrass. Their harmony arrangements recall the Everly Brothers and Crosby, Stills and Nash, while The Small Faces are named as an influence on their harmonies and melody. The band are also associated with alternative rock, indie and psychedelic rock.
Recording
Belakiss are recording and writing in the studio of Brendan Lynch, who has produced Paul Weller and Primal Scream. They work alongside Mik Whitnall of Babyshambles on material for a forthcoming album.
