Bassjackers

Bassjackers is an electronic music group from Noord-Brabant, the Netherlands, made up of Marlon Flohr and Ralph van Hilst. The duo starts in 2007 and works in bass house, big room house, Dutch house, EDM and electro house. Flohr and van Hilst are also described as electro and house producers.

Career

The project begins when two friends join forces, with Flohr already DJing and van Hilst experimenting with dance music production. Their early idea is to steer van Hilst’s productions towards house music so Flohr can use the tracks in his DJ sets. Their first track to satisfy them both is “Beat Cut”.

After they send “Beat Cut” to several established house DJs, it receives early support from figures including Don Diablo and Erick E, and Fedde le Grand charts it in his top 10. The track is signed to Sneakerz Muzik and becomes their debut release. The follow-up, “Juicy Lucy”, also gains club and radio support, including play on 3FM.

Further releases including “Enowapi”, “Klambu” and “Sujo” draw more support and appear on compilations such as Defected, One Love Compilation (AU), Nope Is Dope and Sneakerz. They also work with DJ Jorn on “16”, which is later signed to Sidney Samson’s Samsobeats label.

Remixes and production work

Bassjackers build a reputation for remixes as well as original tracks. They remix artists including Ron Carrol, Ian Carey and Sidney Samson, and work for labels such as 4Kenzo, Spinnin and Kingdom Kome Cuts. Their remixes of tracks by Gregor Salto, Giorgio Giordano and Real el Canario reach number one on dancetunes, a Dutch dance portal.

They also co-produce Quintino’s remix of “Rap das armas”. That track reaches number one in the official Dutch Top 40 and attracts more than eight million views on YouTube.

DJ performances and recognition

Their releases and remixes lead to DJ bookings and a residency at Nope Is Dope, a major house event in the Netherlands. They also play clubs across the Netherlands for events including Sneakerz and Latin Village. Other performance highlights include appearing in the MECC halls in front of 10,000 people, playing at the Your Music Festival with N*E*R*D, and taking part in summer tours along the coasts of Turkey and Spain.

Bassjackers also compile and mix the third Nope Is Dope CD. The compilation enters the Dutch album charts.

Collaborations

They work on new tracks and remixes both as a duo and in collaboration with other artists, including Ralvero, Oliver Twizt, Bizzey and Apster.
