Band of Gold

Band of Gold is an indie pop duo from Oslo, Norway, active since 2015. The group consists of singer, composer and multi-instrumentalist Nina Elisabeth Mortvedt and musician and producer Nikolai Hængsle.

Background

The project begins with Mortvedt’s homemade demo recordings, which Hængsle develops with her into the duo’s debut album. Their work is built around songwriting, studio experimentation and detailed arrangement rather than straightforward first-take recording. The result is described through a mix of electronic and acoustic elements, with Nina Mortvedt’s vocals as a central feature.

Music and collaborators

The duo brings in several additional musicians to support the album’s arrangements. Drums are played by Olaf Olsen, Tomas Pettersen and Kenneth Kapstad. Reine Fiske contributes guitar and bass. Morten Qvenild and David Wallumrød play keyboards. Lars Horntveth writes horn arrangements and also plays horns with Ketil Vestrum Einarsen and Erik Johannesen. Martin Hagfors provides vocals on the closing track, “For You”.

Style and songs

Band of Gold’s music combines ambition with detailed pop songwriting and a strong sense of contrast between electronic and acoustic textures. The material includes “But In The Movie Baby”, “Ready”, “Wishes” and the debut single “The Parade”. The lyrics, written within Mortvedt’s universe, focus on recovery after tragedy, change, and the effort to move forward.
