Badly Drawn Boy

Badly Drawn Boy is the stage name of Damon Gough, a British singer-songwriter born in 1969 in Dunstable, near Manchester. He moves to Bolton, Lancashire before the age of one, and later takes his professional name from a cartoon character he sees on television at a party in Trafford, Manchester in 1995. Before adopting the name, he makes distinctive business cards featuring a drawing by his nephew and a collage by Gough, which he laminates and gives out to friends and club-goers in Blackburn and Manchester.

Career

Gough’s debut album, The Hour of Bewilderbeast, is released in 2000 and wins the Mercury Prize. He also composes the soundtrack to About A Boy, the film adaptation of Nick Hornby’s novel. His third album, Have You Fed The Fish?, follows in 2002, and One Plus One Is One is released in 2004. His fifth album, Born in the U.K., appears in 2006 and includes a nod to Bruce Springsteen, one of his major influences. In 2009, work is announced on Is There Nothing We Could Do?, an album featuring music taken from and inspired by the film The Fattest Man in Britain.
