Autobahn

Autobahn is the name used by several different acts, including a Japanese doujin musician, a five-piece post-punk band from Leeds, a Brazilian band that sings in German, a German rock duo from Datteln, a Las Vegas dance-music producer, a fictional German electro group from The Big Lebowski, a small Canadian band near Ottawa, and a New York noise rock trio.

Japanese doujin musician

In the Japanese context, Autobahn refers to a doujin musician who makes musical arrangements for the circle Yuuhei Satellite (幽閉サテライト).

Leeds post-punk band

Another Autobahn is a five-piece from Leeds who play droning post-punk. Their sound is associated with comparisons to Joy Division and early Public Image Ltd. They release a vinyl-only EP on Tough Love Records in November 2013, follow it with a second EP on the same label, and issue their debut album Dissemble in August 2015 on Tough Love Records.

Other acts using the name

Autobahn also appears as the name of a Brazilian band with Claudinha Bukowski on drums and vocals, Cristian Dieterich on guitar and vocals, Bertrand Morane on bass and keyboards, and Luli Franco on guitar and bass. That group sings in German and cites Fassbinder, Lauren Bacall, Fritz Lang, Orson Welles, Joy Division, Kraftwerk, the Jesus & Mary Chain, Pulp, David Bowie, Suede and Sonic Youth among its influences.

A German rock band from Datteln forms around brothers Stefan “Pele” Götzer and Christian, after their former indie rock group Astra Kid splits up at the end of 2005. Stefan handles vocals and guitar, while Christian plays vocals and drums; their music draws on American bands such as Queens of the Stone Age, Death from Above 1979 and the White Stripes.

There is also a Las Vegas producer under the same name, known for DJ sets at monthly parties that combine hard electro, house and electronic hip hop. In addition, Autobahn is used for a fictional German electro group in The Big Lebowski, a small Canadian band near Ottawa, and a New York City noise rock trio with a three-song single.
