Augustines

Augustines are an American indie rock band from Brooklyn, New York. The group operates as an alternative rock and indie rock act and is based in Brooklyn, United States. It is made up of William McCarthy and Eric Sanderson, with drummer Rob Allen also part of the lineup during the band’s active years.

Formation and early work

The band forms after the break-up of Pela, when McCarthy and Sanderson continue working on songs that were originally intended for Pela’s second studio album. They first record under the name We Are Augustines with former Pela bandmates Tomislav Zovich and Nate Martinez. Rob Allen joins the lineup after the album is recorded.

Releases

The group releases Rise Ye Sunken Ships digitally as We Are Augustines in 2011, then later physically the same year. They then change their name to Augustines before the release of their second album, Augustines, in 2014. Their third album, This Is Your Life, follows in 2016.

Split and later references

Augustines split in 2016 and play their last show at the Liverpool Academy in England. Their final performance is broadcast on Facebook Live. Their story is later documented in Todd Howe’s film RISE, which appears in 2017. In 2023 and 2024, members begin teasing a reunion.
