Antonio Forcione

Antonio Forcione is an Italian guitarist, composer and performer, born in 1960. He records under the Antastic Ltd. label and works in jazz and blues, with playing that also draws on gypsy jazz and South American influences. He begins recording in 1983 and appears on dozens of albums.

Background and style

Forcione studies percussion before changing to guitar, and that background shapes his approach to rhythm and his use of the guitar body as a percussive instrument. His playing is known for strong rhythmic detail and technical fluency. He is based in London from 1983 and tours regularly in the UK and Europe.

Recordings and collaborations

Among his better-known albums are Meet Me in London and Dedicato. Talking Hands, made with Neil Stacey, is also noted as a recording worth seeking out. He appears on many albums across his career.

Live performance and ensemble work

Forcione is often regarded as strongest in live performance. He tours with a sophisticated four-piece line-up that includes cello, flute, double bass and percussion. He also performs as part of AKA Trio.
