Alice Jemima

Alice Jemima is a British singer-songwriter from Newton Abbot, Devon. She is born in 1993 and makes pop music, with songs described as carefully made pop pieces. Her voice is described as fragile and rich, and she plays a vintage Hofner guitar.

Early appearances and live work

In 2010, BBC Bristol begins supporting her after her win at Teenage Rampage in Exeter, and she becomes a regular presence on their BBC Introducing slot. In 2011, she performs at a number of notable events, including the unveiling of the Olympic Rings at St Pancras International, where she plays for figures including Seb Coe and Boris Johnson. She also earns a place on the BBC Introducing stage at Wychwood Festival, selected from a large number of applicants, and she appears at the BBC’s first live gig in Bristol to represent the range of local music in the area. She also has a planned performance at Proud Galleries in Camden for Music Week.

Broadcast support and recognition

Her music is played by Radio 1 presenter Rob da Bank and later by Tom Robinson on BBC Radio 6. She is also featured through Breaking More Waves Blog, which places her alongside artists such as Rizzle Kicks and Curxes and names her song “Red Coat” as a lead choice. That track is produced by Andy Chatterley and Jason Tarver, who both work with Kylie Minogue on Aphrodite.

Collaborations and supporters

Rob da Bank supports her through his Song In Seven Hours competition, which she wins with “Psychedelic Bacon”, a song written for him and used to take her to his festival on the Isle of Wight. Nerina Pallot also supports her, choosing her for support in 2009 and later performing in a duet with her in December 2011. Hofner provides her with guitars and includes her among its Hofner Artists.
