Alex Kidd

Alex Kidd is a UK electronic dance music DJ associated with hardstyle, hard house, hard trance, hard dance, house and minimal. He works mainly within a European hard trance and hard style sound, while also bringing in hard dance, techno and other harder club elements. His performances are described as technically busy and highly physical, with extensive mixing, chopping between tracks and crowd-focused showmanship.

Style and performance

He is known for sets built around growling beats and soaring riffs, and for treating the DJ booth as part of the performance rather than a fixed position. His live appearances include crowd interaction, masked dives and other theatrical gestures intended to intensify the atmosphere. He is also presented as a DJ whose style is difficult to define neatly, even though his core sound stays close to European hard trance and hard style.

Alex Kidd is a resident at Goodgreef, where he secures a residency at the opening night and continues as a resident. He also holds residencies at BIG in the East Midlands and Tranzaction in Truro, Cornwall. Early in his career, he works at Spin Inn Records in Manchester, which gives him an early view of the industry, and he becomes a regular at Bowlers raves in Manchester before taking on larger bookings across Britain.

His international work includes a sell-out tour of Taiwan, repeated visits to Ibiza, and appearances at Judgement Sunday at Eden. He also plays in Amsterdam, including HQ at the Milkyway and HQXL at Amsterdam Docklands, and performs in Hamburg, including a headline set for the 12th birthday of Tunnel Club. In Australia, he tours Sydney, Adelaide, the Gold Coast and Melbourne.

His bookings include HQ Amsterdam, Inside Out, Dance Academy, Wildchild, Bionic, Polysexual, Sundissential and Garlands. In the UK he appears at Creamfields in the Cream/Goodgreef main arena, Helter Skelter, Antiworld indoor festivals, Escape in the Park in Wales, the Manchester Evening News Arena, the NEC, and Goodgreef events at Nation, Yarm and the Manchester Academy. He also plays London events for Frantic, Hardcore Heaven meets Frantic, Blast v Convergence, Genesis, Wildchild, Heat and RIOT, and appears at Butlins weekender events and the Tidy Weekender roster.

Record label, writing and radio

He serves as A&R manager for the Goodgreef record label from its beginning and mixes all three Goodgreef albums, including the third album with Yoji Biomehanika. He writes a monthly hard trance column for Tidy.com and contributes radio mixes and guest appearances for Kiss FM in Melbourne, Galaxy shows for Paul Kershaw, Nick Riley and Andi Durrant, and Judge Jules’s Radio 1 international show. He also appears in interviews, shout-outs and phone-ins on Radio 1.

Recognition and collaborations

He is tipped by Yoji Biomehanika as one to watch and is cited by Mixmag as a Future Hero in consecutive years. He works closely with Yoji Biomehanika, including touring with him to promote the Goodgreef album, and the two share DJ slots and warm-up sets. He also draws inspiration from drum and bass and techno figures such as Goldie and Sven Väth.
